If you live in Long Island NY and didn't get your $10/$10 JCPenney coupon in the mail in Oct 2009, I know what happened to it......
Click here and here. A Long Island postal worker allegedly stole 7,000 JCPenney, Kohl's, and Lowe's $10 coupons and sold them on EBay. He netted $35,000 and probably a trip to prison. If you watch the video, it looks like the reporter didn't understand the crime. We all know that a $10/$10 JCPenney coupon is like a $10 bill. It's not like a mid-week sales circular that you use to line the birdcage. They make it sound like he took a simple ad for JCPenney and that the crime is 'victimless'. Well, if you took my $10 bill -- oops $10 JCPenney coupon -- I am a victim and I'm out that nice freebie. If the reporter did a little more research, she would understand that you don't sell sales circulars on EBay, you sell valuable $10 coupons. Hopefully the court experience will include people who are more savvy.

Get real here, it isn't a victimless crime, but a $10 off a $10 coupon at JCPenney's = $10 bill? Uh, what? Haven't you ever tried to use one of those? The last time I received one from JCPenney, we happened to go by a JCPenny and I went away empty handed. Why? The exclusions and it had to be just over $10, as they would not take it for an item that was just under $10. There were a lot of exclusions back when I received one. Now at Kohl's the $10 off a $10 purchase is more of a $10 Kohl's gift card. Still not a $10 bill though.
Mail fraud is what will put that man in prison or net him serious fines. JCP does not take the $10 off under $10, but I am more than happy to use it for a nice oft times needed item of clothing. A coupon should be used as is stated. There are restrictions, boohoo, read them and shop accordingly. Stop trying to "get away" with something. That is what gives couponers a bad name.
