Walgreens does not have a corporate coupon policy; they leave decisions up to each manager, which creates havoc. With this in mind, I would like to write an official Walgreens Coupon Policy, which I will send by registered mail to the president of Walgreens, with the suggestion that they step up and have a real policy. I will also outline the ongoing problems in their stores with inconsistency, with your help. I have a sneaking suspicion that the real reason Walgreens doesn't have an official policy is laziness. If that is the case, if we do the work for them, all they have to do is fine tune it and bingo, we'll have something in writing from now on. I need your input:
Question of the Week: Please write some official rules to be listed on the Walgreens Coupon Policy. If you have had a bad experience in Walgreens because of a clerk or manager making up rules, please relate it in detail. (Include the location of the store if possible, or at least the state; your full name will not be used unless you request it -- the more details the better. If they can see that they have a problem in many stores across the country, that has power.)
Question of the Week

I have had multiple issues, as have a lot of people I'm sure. One in particular led to my first complaint to Walgreens Corporate last week. I have yet to recieve any response from them.
On 3/6/10 I went to the Sulfur, La store and was treated horribly by the cashier (Rhonda, according to the reciept, which I still have if you need transaction details), and the manager on duty. They questioned every coupon, argued that I could not use coupons on items that were on sale, stated I could only get the item pictured on the coupon even though it stated "any" type of the product, stated I could not use an "item free" coupon if I used coupons on the other items in the deal, then accused me of trying to steal from them and get them fired. When I finally told them to take the items off my bill, that I would shop elsewhere, they started scanning my coupons which went through without a single problem. I don't think I will ever shop there again. It was very embarrassing.
Just the week prior I was told by the manager at another store in Lake Charles, LA that I could not get an RR if I use a coupon. After several minutes of arguing I proved to him the catalina machine was not working (turned out it was unplugged) and he fixed the problem and got me my RR's. However he still instisted after all of this that I am not supposed to be able to get RR on an item if I use a coupon on it.
First, let me say that requesting a formal corporate policy has the potential to "backfire" on us --- they may decide we can no longer stack coupons.
Now, with that said...I'd like to say I'm new to doing the Walgreens deals. I've only done it for the last 3 weeks. I had a problem the very first week at a store in Omaha, NE (Deerfield Plaza). I later learned WHY it happened...but at the time, I didn't know why and the Manager and clerk were of no help to me. I had bought a lot of items, turned over a stack of coupons, and then went to hand them my RR as payment before giving my cash. Some of the RR went in, but then some started beeping. What I later realized is I had more coupons and RR than I had ITEMS for the total order...so I needed to grab some packs of gum, etc. to stop the beeping. But what happened is the clerk went to talk to the Manager about it (at the photo counter) and then came back and started REMOVING MY COUPONS FROM MY PURCHASE AND HANDING THEM BACK TO ME --- he said "you'll have to use these next time". ???? Excuse me??? I was angry --- I informed him he needs to COMMUNICATE TO THE CUSTOMER what he's planning to do before he starts doing it. I grabbed a few candy bars and had him ring them one by one, while putting the coupons back on, until things "balanced" out.
But I was VERY irritated that the Manager's answer was to remove coupons and hand them back to me!!!
If you're writing corporate, I'd suggest including a request that their corporate policy state that:
1. All Walgreens coupons will say WALGREENS COUPON on them (not manufacturer's coupon)
2. That a customer can use 1 Walgreens coupon and 1 Manufacturer's coupon per item
3. That coupons that result in a "free" item are allowed.

Also----their corporate policy should clearly outline the ORDER that coupons are processed. Manufacture's coupons first? Then Walgreens? Then RR, then payment?

There was a sale on disposable razors for $1.99. I had a $2 coupon. Walgreens @ Cook/Lima Rd in Fort Wayne, IN was out of item, so gave me a raincheck. When I went back to use raincheck a few weeks later, the young female manager refused to honor the $2 coupon because it was 1 cent more than the sale price. I tried to politely dispute the point that I had used similar coupons at other Walgreens in the past, and that it was fine if she only credited me the $1.99, and the store could keep the extra penny it would get from the manufacturer, but she refused to budge. The register receipt for the other items I purchased had a customer satisfaction survey on it, which I promptly filled out online and detailed my frustration and dissatisfaction with their poor customer service, and that I had already made 2 trips and wasted gas for this item. A few days later, I got a phone call from a store manager of the Walgreens at State and Wells, apologizing for the problem (this was the closest store to my home, but not the one I had shopped in). He said if I would bring the coupon, he had the razors in stock and would honor it. I was able to complete the transaction at that store's register without even mentioning his conversation with me...cashier just rang it up without a question.
If Walgreens wants to keep their market share, they need to do a better job with this coupon issue. Nearly every one of our area Walgreens has a CVS across the street, and I've never had an issue with CVS and coupons.
