Equifax Hack Details & Steps For Free Credit Monitoring

Almost one in two Americans was affected by the Equifax hack. Both my husband and I are among them. It doesn't matter if you personally ever used Equifax. It's one of the three main credit bureaus and it has information on you whether you agreed to it or not, so you may be compromised. If you are, Equifax will give you free credit monitoring for a year through TrustedID Premier. Here's how to check.

1) Go to https://www.equifaxsecurity2017.com/
2) Scroll down and click on "potential impact".

3) Click on "Check Potential Impact" and enter your last name and last 6 digits of your social security number. You'll get an immediate answer, either NO or "possibly". (Probably a legal cover to protect themselves)

Also, you are given a date "9/12/17" for your enrollment. On or after your enrollment date, please return to faq.trustedidpremier.com and click on the link to continue through the enrollment process. You won't get a reminder.
So..... be sure to complete the enrollment next week so you have the free year.

I heard that if you sign up for their free year of credit monitoring, that you might be waiving your right to file a lawsuit against them. Not sure if this is true, but consider this before signing up.
