Sam's Club Free Health Screenings For All Saturday

Sam's Club will have free health screenings for all, no membership required, this Saturday 3/12. Visit from 11 am to 4 pm. Tests include glucose, total cholesterol, HDL, Risk Ratio, blood pressure, body fat percentage, vision screening/testing and hearing.

Off Topic - health numbers: I read an interesting article this morning on yahoo (I think) about waist size and body fat percentage. Women should have a waist size of 35" or less, men 40" or less. The reason is that fat deposited around the internal organs is a risk factor for heart disease and diabetes. Of course, it's a sliding scale -- the more over 35" the worse it is, and just because your waist is 34.9" doesn't mean you're out of the risk zone. It's a guideline. It also said that the average American woman's waist is 37.5".
Body fat percentage is also a risk factor for increased heart disease, cancer and diabetes. The danger point seems to start at about 37% body fat. A lot of bathroom scales give body fat percentage now. This is a more important figure than BMI.
If you don't have an idea of your body fat percentage (even slender people can have too much body fat and not enough muscle), you can do the free tests at Sam's Club this Saturday.
