Walgreens Loyalty Card/Reward Program Starts Sept 16

It's official. Walgreens will launch a loyalty card program on September 16th, but you can sign up starting early in September for a chance to win 10 million points. Read about it here. It will be called "Balance Rewards". You save point for a 'treat'. You can earn points by:

* Buying certain items
* filling prescriptions
* getting shot
* participating in a walking program (??!!)

5,000 points will earn a $5 reward.
40,000 point will get $50 to use in-store.

FYI: CVS says ECBs have a redemption rate of 55%. And CVS will fight back against Walgreens new program -- "CVS is conducting a five-market pilot program in which users get $5 in ExtraBucks for every five prescriptions filled, up from $1 for every two prescriptions. CVS said it was thinking about whether to enhance pharmacy-related ExtraCare rewards nationally in 2013."
