Groupon In The News

Groupon is in the news again. There is a big article about Groupon in the new Newsweek magazine. This year they grossed $50 million dollars. Groupon was the first, but there are literally dozens of copycats now. The way they make money is that they get half of whatever you pay for the Groupon.
The merchant offers something at a big discount, then the merchant only collects half of that, but they are lining up to participate because it's such good publicity. For merchants, it works better than banner ads.

$20 for $40 Worth of Books at Simon & Schuster's Online StoreThe Groupon today for most of the country is $40 in books from Simon and Schuster for $20. When I do Groupon offers, I always click on the merchant's website to make sure there is something I want for the price offered, and if the Groupon doesn't cover shipping, I want to see how much that is. Hubby George gave a strong YES when I asked him if he wanted this one from Simon and Schuster. Also, when you click on your city, be sure to look for additional deals in the right column. Some deals last more than one day, but they are bumped to the right in a smaller box.
