40,000 Points For Southwest Credit Card

I'm a fan of the Southwest frequent flier program. Because they give points and not miles, when I signed up years ago for their credit card, I was able to stretch the points to 4 round trip tickets instead of two. There is a $69 annual fee, but that is like getting 2-4 round trip tickets for $69.
I got an email from Southwest that I can invite friends for the same deal. I'll earn 10,000 points if you use my referral, and you'll get 40,000 points. They have lowered the spending requirement. It used to be $2,000 in 3 months. Now it's $1,000 in 3 months. That's just $334 charged per month for 3 months until you get your 40,000 bonus miles. Here's what it says:

Fine print:
* 40,000 bonus points after you spend $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of opening your account.
* $69 annual fee applied to first billing statement
* 3000 Anniversary points after your cardmember anniversary.

Rumors are that Southwest is going to add Hawaii to their destinations in 2018, which is another reason to bank a bunch of points. We use our Southwest Visa at Costco and it helps with the accumulation.

P.S. One really nice thing about Southwest is that they don't charge for your first bag. And another is that if you are unable to make the flight you booked, you have a year to use the credit. Whatever you paid for the missed flight will be applied to a future purchase. And there are no blackout dates to use the points. And sometimes you get funny flight attendants who sing or do a comedy routine. And.... I just like Southwest!
