More Walmart Thoughts - A Word of Caution

More thoughts on the new Walmart coupon policy:  It’s very important that we play nice and don’t abuse this rare opportunity. According to this policy, you could buy a .65 candy bar, present a $10 Walgreens RR, and get $9.35 in change. If people do that, the rules will quickly change for the worse. Since Walmart has plenty of milk, meat, fresh fruit, vegetables, eggs, bread, etc., that extra $9.35 should be spent on things in the store that people buy all the time anyway. I hope RC readers will not insist on change, but will spend their overage in the store. It’s fine to work your deals so you only owe pennies or a few dollars, but please don’t flaunt the Walgreens RR and make cashiers pay you cash back. That will kill the golden goose. It's in everyone's best interests to fly under the radar and be good coupon citizens.

RiteAid early UP report from (3/4/2011 7:06:01 PM):  Colgate toothpaste and toothbrushes are $2.99 with a $2 UP, LIMIT FOUR, so I got 2 of each using $1 paste coupons from the Walgreens diabetes book, and .75 brush
coupons from last week's SS. If you're at 20% the toothpaste rings at $2.95 instead of $2.99. Every penny counts!

NYC cosmetics are B1G150% off, with $1 UP for those priced $1.99 and up. I got 2 lipsticks , one rang at $1.99, one at .99, used 2 $1 coupons (from All You I think?) I got 2 $1 UPs, even tho one lipstick rang at .99, profit of a little over a dollar after UPs. The nail polish is also $1.99, everything else is higher.

There's a coupon in the ad for free 1-count Thermacare @ $3.99, if you're at 20%, they ring at $3.19, but the coupon still takes off $3.99. I only got 2, my store has lots (what a shock!) so I'll get a few more here and there until they run out, probably later tomorrow, lol.

I also got 2 of the 12-packs of Cottonelle, the UP is LIMIT TWO. Used 2 .50 SS coupons and 2 $1 VVs, both from my 2 February accounts. The same VVs are in March too, so if you only have one account, you could still use 2 VVs.

Kleenex is B1G1F, including 200 ct. I got 4 using 2 $1/2 VVs and one SS B3G1F. $2.49 each, so .73 for 4 big boxes after all coupons. (The B3G1F is only good up to $2.25.)

That's got to be a first for any store. You'll definitely want to print the policy and keep a copy in your coupon file. Overage, here I come!! Walmart accepts... "Checkout coupons (also called "Catalinas") that are printed at our competitors' registers, have "Manufacturer Coupon" with specific requirements printed on them, a valid remit address for the manufacturer, valid expiration date, and a scannable bar code."

It sounds like RR's earned at Walgreens can be spent at Walmart. That blows the door wide open for Walgreens deals because the drawback at Walgreens is the endless cycle of needing to roll them on different promotions. You can now go to Walgreens, and do a deal that is 'free' after RR, then take the  RR to Walmart and buy meat, fruit, etc. For example

Spend $4.99 out of pocket at Walgreens to get the NasoGel. Then take the $4.99 RR to Walmart and buy your regular groceries. It's a simple process to spend the money first at Walgreens, get the stuff, then use the RR's like cash at Walmart. Since you'd buy meat and fruit anyway, adding the extra stop at Walgreens first means you still get the meat and fruit, but something else from Walgreens, too, all for the same final out of pocket.

It also says...

So I'm jumping to the conclusion that you can cut a coupon out of the Walgreens flier for Dawn Dish Liquid for .99, and redeem it at Walmart. They should also take a manufacturer coupon on top of the store coupon, but that isn't spelled out. A whole new Walmart world is opening up. Please report on Chat what you try at Walmart and how it goes. There needs to be a lot of testing of the waters over the next week.
